About this place

Buenavista, Quindío – Landscapes to Enjoy at a Relaxed Pace

Buenavista is the smallest municipality in Quindío and one of the destinations offering the finest views of Colombia’s Coffee Cultural Landscape. Built on the mountains in the southern part of the department, it feels like a natural balcony overlooking coffee plantations, bamboo groves, nearby towns, and part of the Cauca River Valley.

Its peaceful atmosphere, colorful streets, and welcoming residents make it an ideal destination for travelers who want to enjoy coffee, nature, and rural life away from large crowds.

Location and Climate

Buenavista is located approximately 1,477 meters above sea level and about 27 kilometers from Armenia. Its average temperature is around 20°C, although weather conditions can change throughout the day because of its mountainous location.

Lightweight clothing, a light jacket, sunscreen, and rain protection are recommended. On clear days, its viewpoints offer broad panoramas of Quindío and the northern Cauca Valley.

History and Culture

Buenavista was founded on March 4, 1933, by settlers who arrived during the final period of the settlement of the region by people from Antioquia. It was initially known as El Tolrá and later received its current name because of the extensive views surrounding the town.

It officially became a municipality in 1966. Its history is closely connected to muleteering, agriculture, and coffee cultivation, activities that remain essential to its identity.
