About this place
Kasaguadua: A Life Project in the Heart of the Cloud Forest
A few kilometers from Salento, in the rural area of Palestina, lies Kasaguadua Natural Reserve, a life project created through a commitment to restoring, protecting, and understanding the forest.
Its 12 hectares preserve a sub-Andean forest ecosystem where water springs emerge and birds, mammals, insects, and numerous plant species find shelter. More than a tourist attraction, Kasaguadua is a place to understand how the forest works and why its conservation is essential to the surrounding territory.
A Forest Dedicated to Conservation
According to information provided directly by the owner, approximately 99% of the property is dedicated to conservation and ecological recovery.
More than 70,000 wax palms have naturally regenerated from the forest’s seed bank. The reserve also provides shelter for six threatened mammal species, in addition to numerous native birds.
Five water springs emerge within the reserve and feed the Eón micro-watershed, which later connects with the Quindío River. Protecting these sources contributes to preserving the ecological and hydrological balance of this area of Salento.
What can you do?

Guided Forest Tour
The main experience is an interpretive walk that normally begins at 10:00 a.m. from the reserve entrance and lasts approximately two hours.
During the walk, guides explain the connections between water, soil, plants, animals, and human communities. Tours may be offered in Spanish or English, subject to advance booking and availability.
Advance reservations are required to control visitor numbers and reduce pressure on wildlife and the ecosystem.
Trails and Physical Conditions
Kasaguadua has approximately four kilometers of trails crossing forests, streams, water springs, and areas in different stages of ecological regeneration.
The guided visit uses only part of this network. River expeditions, canyoning, and extended hikes may require additional time and physical effort.
Visitors may encounter slopes, tree roots, mud, water crossings, and uneven surfaces. A basic level of physical fitness, suitable footwear, and compliance with the reserve’s instructions are required.
Independent exploration without prior authorization is not recommended.
Ecolodge Inside the Forest
Kasaguadua has an ecological accommodation integrated into the natural surroundings. Its dodecahedron-shaped structures were built using recycled materials and bamboo responsibly sourced from the forest.
The water management system is designed to return treated water to the surrounding environment. The accommodation offers services such as electricity, hot water, and gas, allowing visitors to stay comfortably while remaining connected to nature.
Reaching the ecolodge involves an approximately 20-minute walk from the entrance, so traveling with light luggage is recommended.
The stay is designed for visitors who want to disconnect from urban noise, listen continuously to the forest, and discover a lifestyle centered on sustainability.
Location and How to Get There
Kasaguadua is located in the Palestina rural area, approximately two kilometers from central Salento.
You can approach the reserve on foot, by private vehicle, taxi, or arranged transportation. The entrance can be easy to miss, so request detailed access instructions when making your reservation.

A Conservation Project to Experience and Understand
Kasaguadua is neither a theme park nor a conventional hiking attraction. It is a life project that allows visitors to enter the forest respectfully, hear its stories, and understand the connections between water, biodiversity, and people.
Here, sustainability is not limited to protecting trees. It also involves preserving water sources, recovering species, reducing human impact, and building a more conscious relationship with the communities surrounding the forest.
The experience encourages visitors to slow down, observe carefully, and discover that protecting nature also means transforming the way we relate to it.
Come and experience what it means to live in a different way.
