The best things to do in Salento depend on what you came for. A first visit can centre on the town itself; a longer stay leaves time for Cocora’s highland landscape and a closer look at coffee farming.
01 · The town
Walk Calle Real up to the view
Start around the main square and follow Calle Real through the town’s colourful façades, cafés, restaurants and craft shops. The street leads toward Alto de la Cruz, where a climb above the rooftops opens a view toward the Cocora landscape. Take your time here: Salento is more than a stop on the way to the valley, and its traditional streets are part of the experience.
For a first orientation, open the Salento place profile in the Quindío es Mío directory. It gives you a starting point for discovering the town and nearby published places.
02 · The highlands
Give Cocora Valley its own day
The valley is known for its wax palms and high-Andean scenery. You can experience it through a shorter landscape visit or choose a longer walk, but routes, access and conditions vary. Before leaving Salento, confirm which trails are open, how demanding your chosen route is, and what the return transport looks like with local sources or your operator.
If you want a guided outing, compare the currently published options for Acaime Salento and Salento Trekking. Check directly with the provider for the route, availability and what is included; this guide does not sell tours or confirm live trail status.
03 · Coffee country
Visit a farm, not just a coffee shop
Salento’s mountain setting is also a working coffee landscape. A farm visit can help connect the cup to the place where coffee is grown and prepared. Finca El Ocaso is one published option in the Quindío es Mío inventory; review its profile and contact the farm to confirm the experience, schedule and booking requirements before travelling.
Prefer to compare first? Browse published places in Quindío and look for coffee farms and experiences around Salento. Listings can change, so confirm details with each business.
Make it your own
How to put the days together
Choose either the town and a coffee farm, or a dedicated Cocora outing. Trying to fit all three into one day can make the visit feel rushed.
Keep Salento as a base, then give the valley and a farm visit separate time. Leave room to adjust around weather, access and the pace you prefer.
The Quindío es Mío app helps you discover published places and curated routes across the department, so you can connect Salento with more of Quindío. For trip planning, use the app alongside direct confirmation from the places you plan to visit.
